Rachel Joanne Weiner Memorial Trust

Rachel Joanne Weiner Memorial Trust

The Rachel Joanne Weiner Memorial Trust was established by an anonymous donor in honor of SPSCC faculty member Nancy Miller and her deep dedication to her students and chosen field. Nancy was given the choice to spend the money as she saw fit, so she established the Rachel Joanne Weiner Memorial Scholarship in honor of her daughter who died of a drug overdose at the age of 20, just nine days shy of her 21st birthday. Rachel was a community college student, a voracious reader and writer, and a deeply spiritual being, whose love of life, people and animals shone forth like a beacon. She always stood ready to help anyone who was having a problem, giving of herself in any way she could. Rachel struggled for years to beat her addiction, signing herself into rehab centers on her own many times. She ultimately failed to overcome it one wintry Christmas night in 2008. The criteria for eligibility is any student who has experienced an overwhelming obstacle or challenge in life, and who has been able to overcome it.
